What Is an
Exhaust Cutout?
An exhaust cutout is a specialized Y-pipe mechanism installed in a vehicle’s exhaust pathway, typically positioned before the muffler or catalytic converter. By activating a valve, it allows exhaust gases to bypass the restrictive factory muffling system, venting directly to the atmosphere.
A well-engineered cutout exhaust system provides the best of both worlds: quiet, street-legal operation when the valve is closed, and maximum horsepower with an aggressive exhaust note when open.

- Instant Response: Open or close the bypass valve seamlessly via the included remote control.
- Heat Protection: Features braided heat-shielded wiring for maximum durability under the chassis.
Universal Custom Integration
Designed for professional exhaust fabrication. Our Y-pipe cutouts provide a clean, structural solution for adding a valved bypass to almost any existing OEM or aftermarket exhaust system.
- Expert TIG Welded: High-quality fish-scale welds ensure structural integrity and zero exhaust leaks.
- Premium Materials: Constructed from 304 stainless steel to resist corrosion and withstand high exhaust temps.
Quiet Cruising, Loud Racing
Give your customers the best of both worlds. The electronic cutout bypasses the factory muffler on demand, transforming the vehicle's exhaust note instantly with a single click.
- Valves Closed: Exhaust flows through the stock muffler routing for a quiet, drone-free daily drive.
- Valves Open: Direct straight-pipe flow for maximum volume, reduced backpressure, and an aggressive racing sound.
Exhaust Cutout FAQ
1. What is the Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)?
Our standard MOQ is one carton (typically 6 units of the same size). You can mix sizes in a shipment, provided they fill full cartons, making it easy for shops to run trial orders.
2. How are the electric valves controlled?
Every kit includes a wireless remote exhaust cutout module. We also include a hardwired exhaust cutout switch in every box as a fail-safe backup for your customers.
3. What is the production lead time?
Fast-moving SKUs (like our 2.5" and 3" single-valve kits) are kept in stock and can ship within 7 days. Volume orders or Y-pipe dual-valve configurations typically require a 30-day production lead time.
4. Do you offer an after-sales warranty on motors?
Yes. Through our 5% Spare Motor Rule, we pack 5 extra motors for every 100 kits ordered, allowing your shop to handle immediate field replacements without waiting for overseas RMAs.

Full Tech ReportFAQ - Exhaust Cutouts
1. What is an exhaust cutout?
An exhaust cutout is a Y-pipe mechanism installed in the exhaust system, typically before the muffler. When the valve is closed, exhaust flows through the muffler for quiet operation. When open, exhaust bypasses the muffler for maximum flow and a louder note.
2. Does an exhaust cutout increase horsepower?
On turbocharged vehicles, opening the cutout reduces backpressure, which can improve spool and top-end power. On naturally aspirated engines, the gains are minimal but the sound difference is significant.
3. Electric vs manual exhaust cutout — which is better?
Electric cutouts offer convenience with remote control operation. Manual cutouts are simpler, cheaper, and less likely to fail but require reaching under the vehicle to open or close the valve.
4. Are exhaust cutouts street legal?
Laws vary by state and country. In many regions, cutouts are legal as long as the vehicle meets noise limits when the valve is closed. Check local regulations before installation.
5. What pipe sizes are available for exhaust cutouts?
LEDAUT offers exhaust cutout kits for 2.5-inch, 3.0-inch, and 3.5-inch pipe diameters to match common exhaust system sizes.
6. Can I install an exhaust cutout myself?
Basic mechanical skills are sufficient for clamp-on cutout kits. Weld-in installations require MIG or TIG welding experience. Most installations take 1-2 hours with standard tools.
